Howard Smith is an American born artist living in Finland since the 60’s. Since then Smith has bathed the Finnish art scene with forms and colors from Afro-American cultural heritage and with an attitude of unforeseen playfulness.
Best known for the public by his designs for Arabia and Vallila, he has also produced an amazing amount of sculptures, paper cuts, ceramics, drawings and paintings.
His art celebrates the cultural diversity in way that remains of great relevance. Smiths works have now been catalogued and an amazing window to more than half a decade of American-Finnish art and industrial design is there for us to open. Pure joy.
